Should I Invite My Ex to My Wedding?

Today’s weekly upload here on Dear Sybersue is a question from a viewer on my YouTube Channel. Should I Invite My Ex to My Wedding?

Some men I have spoken with think this is a really dumb question but with over 44 million people googling this, I guess it is more popular than many people realize.

Why is that? Should it be a big priority to add your Ex to the guest list of one of the most important events of your life? They are your Ex for a reason, right? How does your fiance feel about this? Have you told even them?

Even if the breakup with your Ex was amicable and you have both buried any past animosity, you should still be mindful of potentially opening up some unwanted drama. There could be unfinished business that you’re not even aware of. Are you sure you are really over them????

The fact that this question is being asked is because the breakup with the Ex is probably not from a long time ago.

If you are only friends with your Ex out of guilt (you broke their heart) or you’re just trying to be a non-confrontational person because you have many mutual friends, this is not reason enough to feel obligated to invite them to your wedding! It is your special day, not their’s!

You don’t have to remain friends with everyone who has been in your life. You can forgive someone and forgive yourself, without having to continue seeing them.

There are some couples that have these amazing relationships with their long-term ex’s due to co-parenting and actually liking each other in a friendship sense. Some people get along better platonically than they ever did as romantic partners!

Remember Demi Moore, Bruce Willis, and Ashton Kutcher? I thought Ashton was a saint always having Bruce around in this awkward threesome parenting style! To each his own I suppose.

If you have to ask the question on whether you should include your Ex in your wedding nuptials then the answer is probably a hard NO. Maybe you need to ask yourself WHY you want them at your wedding?

What is the purpose of this? Is it to show them what they are missing out on and how happy you are with this other person? Do you want to show your Ex that you are soooooo over them? “Look at me now!”

You have moved on and you’re starting a new chapter in your life, don’t complicate things by holding on to the past.

We are here to learn things from all the relationships we have in our lives and take the lessons with us into our future. Be grateful and thankful for the experience that made you a better person and led you to the partner you are meant to be with.

Please watch the video above and leave your comments below! Have you invited your Ex to your wedding or another important milestone event? How did it go?
