A Discussion On – 50 Shades of Grey

What do you think of the book 50 Shades of Grey? Is this type of sex life a good thing & do you find it a romantic? Why is the public opinion so divided on this sadomasochistic relationship? Regardless of the book being “fiction” is it really a good message to put out there?

It is said that “no publicity is bad publicity” so I guess that is what has happened to the 50 Shades of Grey by author E L James. The popularity & controversy has made this trilogy into one of the most discussed books since Harry Potter by AK Rowlings. (This said with no disrespect towards Ms. Rowlings in a comparative sense!)

According to Amazon.com, & Amazon CO.UK 50 % love the book with 5 star ratings while the other 50% were not impressed with a 1 star rating.

With so many people having trouble finding a healthy relationship today, is this story of S&M going to become the new trend or expectation in an average partnership? Are many couples  bored & looking for new ways to create sexual excitement in their stale relationships?  Why is this book so popular that it is now in discussion to become a movie?

Women fought hard to get the respect they deserve & not be someone’s submissive toy,  so why is the Sadomasochistic relationship with billionaire Christian Grey & Anastasia Steel being romanticized today?  Women are beaten on a daily basis in other countries, I wonder if they would find this type of sex play exciting?  I don’t think people are really looking at the cloudy & disturbing message it is sending to young women & men. Mothers are sharing this book with their daughters which is disturbing on it’s ow

Many couples enjoy sexual fantasies within a normal relationship but are not required to sign a huge controlling non-disclosure document!

Definition ~“Sadomasochism is the receiving of pleasure—often sexual—from acts involving the infliction or reception of pain or humiliation. A subset of BDSM, practitioners of sadomasochism usually seek out sexual gratification from these acts, but often seek out other forms of pleasure as well. While the terms sadist and masochist specifically refer to one who either enjoys giving pain (sadist), or one who enjoys receiving pain (masochist), many practitioners of sadomasochism describe themselves as at least somewhat of a switch, or someone who can receive pleasure from either inflicting or receiving pain.”

(The one character I did love in the book was Anastasia’s roommate.  She viewed Christian Grey as a control freak and saw through his charm immediately.)

I would like to know what so many women liked about the book?  Why does this type of relationship make you want to read three of these books?
